Dr. Patel is the medical director of Radiation Oncology at AMITA Health’s Alexian Brothers Medical Center and at St. Alexius Medical Center. He primarily practices at these locations, providing prostate cancer treatment and treatment for bladder cancer, genitourinary cancers, endometrial cancer, cervical cancer, uterine cancer and other gynecological cancers. He has done research in genitourinary and gynecological cancers and has won the Delmar H. Mahrt, MD award for research. He has written publications and given lectures locally and nationally on topics in his research. Dr. Patel is trained in the use of intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), IMRT with RapidArc, stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), conformal 3D radiation therapy, high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR), breast brachytherapy (Contura, MammoSite and SAVI) permanent prostate brachytherapy (seed implants). He has a particular interest in genitourinary malignancies, gynecologic malignancies, breast cancer, sarcoma, palliative care and brachytherapy.
Dr. Patel spends his leisure time with his wife and their two boys. He also enjoys traveling, University of Michigan sporting events, golfing and long distance running.
